Our History
Green Tree Risk Partners is a member company of the Pennsylvania Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Group (PLM). The Green Tree Risk Partners story began when it was incorporated in 1935 as an insurance brokerage affiliated with Indiana Lumbermens Mutual Insurance Company, then called Allied Building Material Agency (ABM). When PLM acquired ILM in 2013, ABM was a part of the deal, but operation of the agency had waned and lay dormant, until 2020.
In January 2020, Green Tree officially re-opened for business as ABM as a wholesale brokerage and program business placement specialist in the wood products niche. Three years later, in June 2023, the brokerage was rebranded as Green Tree Risk Partners, named after the historic Mutual Assurance Company for Insuring Houses from Loss by Fire, commonly referred to as the Green Tree, a company near and dear to the city of Philadelphia. The rooted history of the Green Tree directly mirrors that of PLM’s, which as an insurer to the wood and wood products industry, has a close connection with and appreciation for trees.
The activation of Green Tree allows us to work with PLM Underwriters and Business Development staff to round new and existing PLM accounts by placing Workers’ Compensation, Property, Casualty, Commercial Auto & Umbrella exposures, among others, with carriers with whom PLM/Green Tree Risk Partners shares a similar commitment to the wood industry, its business owners and their employees.
Although we are a brokerage, we remain a proud part of the PLM Group. We are fully committed to serving the wood niche and cultivating the relationships with our existing and future retail broker partners. Our mission is to make sure that our insureds have the most comprehensive insurance program in place to make them whole in the event of a loss. Through Green Tree Risk Partners, we are able to offer new options, new services, and new possibilities. We can’t wait to share them with our valued producers.
